Midphase.com Review


A midphase hosting review will usually tell you where to get a midphase coupon to save on hosting at Midphase.com.  Midphase.com, located in Chicago, and founded in 2003 is actually under the registrar name of Go Daddy Software, Inc.  Godaddy.com is the largest hosting company in the world, with Midpase.com hosting about 90,000 sites on 200 severs. 

midPhase.com offers a variety of shared hosting plans based on Linux and Windows platforms.  Its most popular hosting package is the Mega-Phase hosting plan which is an e-commerce enabled hosting package geared towards small business.  It is only $7.95 a month, and offers most of the features as other hosting companies in this price range.  The Mega-Phase hosting plan offers better than average disk space and bandwidth, POP3 email access, auto-responders functionality, online statistics, one free domain name for life,  free site-building software, spam and virus blocking, and a free domain account setup.

This all sounds fairly normal, but somehow Midphase continually gets slammed with really bad reviews.  So much so, that you can even look up web sites dedicated to talking about how bad they are.  Why so much hatred for one company?  Are they the uncaring, inept, faceless monsters that so many people say they are?  Not really.  After careful investigation of these hate sites, it’s not hard to figure out what happened.  It’s simply a matter of what companies like Midphase have to deal with when they are forced to offer $7 a month hosting packages to remain competitive.  These kinds of packages are necessary because the industry has gotten so out of hand with price undercutting that everyone has to compromise somewhere. 

Midphase probably offered these rates originally hoping that once someone enjoyed the services, they would upgrade their hosting package in the future.  However, this marketing strategy backfired.  No one anticipated that so many hosting companies would be offering the same product at the same price so readily.  Now, hosting companies have glutted the market and everyone is suffering because of it.

This type of marketing has created an alarming trend which can best be described as the attack of the “Dotcom jumpsters.”   These jumpsters go from hosting company to hosting company, signing up for plans and then immediately canceling accounts after less than a month.  This is mainly because these dotcom jumpsters try to make $7 a month accounts perform like dedicated servers.  When this doesn’t work, the whining starts.

Customer service at midphase has especially taken the brunt of this practice.  This department gets totally bogged down trying to teach dotcom jumpsters how to use their own store-bought software and then integrate into their Midphase site.  Dotcom jumpsters (newbies) don’t even know that there are plenty of free forums on the internet to get an education on how to use their software, and instead, take up customer service time that could be better spent solving actual problems.

Next up is the midphase billing department.  They probably get it the worst.  Dotcom jumpsters sign up with hosting companies just to see if they can load 450,000MB of information into their 350,000MB Mega-phase disk space.  When it doesn’t work, they want their seven dollars back.  After a few weeks using the Mega-phase plan, one dotcom jumpster complained that he had called the billing department ten times in one day to get his money back and no one returned his call.   With only 90,000 accounts to deal with, you would think this dot com jumpster would realize that his $7 refund would not be a priority. 

All kidding aside, these types of $7 a month accounts are going to be around for a while.  What the dotcom jumpsters don’t understand is that they really upset the operational end of smaller companies like Midphase.com and make it almost impossible for people who want to spend $30 a month or more to get better service for real e-commerce.
