EasyCGI.com Review

EasyCGI.com is great for shared hosting, but EasyCGI reviews tend to be mixed when it comes to vps plans. Webmasters who pick EasyCGI web hosting don’t seem to like the EasyCGI vps service.  For those who don’t know, vps is short for “virtual private server.”  A virtual private server is a hybrid server of sorts because it is really a way to make it look your company has a dedicated server and not just advanced shared hosting services.  Actually, virtual private servers are a solution for companies that want to run or update software on a system that acts like a physical and dedicated server without harming their real operating system.  However, EasyCGI.com runs into some problems with feedback because like other companies, they tend to market EasyCGI vps like it is an inexpensive replacement for a dedicated hosting server when it really isn’t.  People who aren’t seasoned web hosters get confused by this, and then they get angry.

This is why you’ll see rookie complaints posted about EasyCGI.com about too much down time, outages and extremely poor customer service.  These comments are coming from people who are sometimes hosting too many sites on one account and probably need to get a dedicated server package.  Easy CGI.com has them, but just like everyone else, the price is more expensive.  As far as basic shared hosting goes, most of the comments are positive

Easy CGI was founded in1998, by a management team whose first experiences were centered on running a successful regional internet service provider.  Located in Pearl River, New York, they now host about 20,000 sites and are recognized globally as one of the important, but smaller companies.  They offer both Windows and Linux web hosting with the basics like ASP, ASP.net, PHP, Perl, FrontPage, Mysql, and MSSQL database support.  Easy CGI doesn’t outsource their technology and they keep their data center in the same location as their corporate headquarters.  This means a hands-on approach to web hosting.  They have developed an expandable shared web hosting platform that is flexible enough to accommodate new technology as it changes.  This makes them a company who is looking towards the future, but still focuses on shared hosting.

Shared hosting packages start at about eight dollars a month but seem to include more features than other companies who drop the rate even lower, only to charge for necessary tools and services later on.  All web hosting accounts include Windows 2003 hosting environment, ASP.NET 2.0 with AJAX 1.0, ASP, Perl, PHP4/PHP5, SSI script library, eXtreme control panel, SmarterStats web site statistics for monitoring, eXtreme Spam, virus blocking, tutorials, and 24/7 phone & email Support.  Monthly data transfer ranges from 3,500 to 7,500 gigs.  Disk space goes from 350 gigs 750 gigs depending on what package you buy. There’s no set up fee and same day setup is included in shared hosting packages.  Multiple domain aliasing and FTP accounts are unlimited.  The rest of the features are fairly standard, like .Net Framework 3.5, Persits AspUpload 3.0.0.5, POP3 Email Accounts, private SSL certificate capability, Flash/Shockwave, SMTP Server Relay, phpMyAdmin, and OSCommerce.

EasyCGI.com is probably for best for people who are looking for shared hosting for less than ten sites.  They have a money back guarantee, and a 99.9% uptime guarantee.  As always, however, when choosing a hosting company, think about what is most important for your sites.  When you comparison shop, don’t just go with the cheapest option.  Consider data center issues like connectivity, customer service, reliability of a network, and also features as simple as the control panel.  At any rate, if you need shared hosting with great customer support, EasyCGI.com is worth checking out.

I found this entry in my despair. I’m currently hosting only 2 sites in EasyCGI’s VPS (DedicatedX2). The server has been down for more than 12 hours but they haven’t done anything. No replying to emails, no commenting to support ticket. This must be the worst-supported service I’ve met.

After the server is back (if it will), I’ll certainly backup my sites and move to another place.

For those who are impressed by EasyCGI’s glamorous advertisements on their website about Dedicated plan, DO NOT believe them and NEVER sign any contract with them.
